Duplex stainless steels aim for a balanced 50/50 mix of austenite and ferrite, though in practice, the ratio may be around 40/60. These steels are stronger than austenitic stainless steels and offer superior resistance to localized corrosion, including pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Duplex Stainless Steel is notable for its excellent mechanical properties and resistance to stress corrosion and cracking. The Duplex Steel Filler Wire, an austenitic-ferritic iron-chromium-nickel alloy with added molybdenum, offers higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking, greater tensile strength, and good resistance to pitting compared to regular austenitic stainless steel. Filler wire is used in welding, brazing, or soldering to create a joint.
Duplex filler wire ER 2594 is specially designed for use with wrought super duplex alloys like 2507 and Zeron 100, as well as super duplex casting alloys (ASTM A890). This filler wire offers chemical and mechanical compatibility with these materials. To ensure an optimal ferrite/austenite ratio in the finished weld, Duplex Steel ER 2594 welding wire is over-alloyed by 2-3% in nickel. This composition results in high tensile and yield strength, along with excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and pitting corrosion. The additional nickel content in the filler wire ensures the ideal balance of microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance compared to the base material.
