What Makes Duplex Stainless Steel Unique?
Duplex stainless steel is known for its high levels of chromium (18%-28%) and low to moderate amounts of nickel (1.5%-8%). This composition gives duplex steel excellent corrosion resistance and strong mechanical properties. The unique duplex microstructure consists of nearly equal amounts of ferrite and austenite, which enhances both its strength and resistance to corrosion.
Key Duplex Stainless Steel Grades
LDX 2101: This is a low nickel, nitrogen-enhanced lean duplex stainless steel. It offers corrosion resistance similar to 304 stainless steel but with much higher mechanical strength. This allows for the use of thinner materials, which can reduce costs.
2304 and 2205/ 31803: These grades are known for their outstanding resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking. They are commonly used in environments where exposure to harsh conditions is expected.
2507: This is one of the most popular Duplex grades for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance. It is widely used in challenging environments due to its enhanced properties.
32750 and 32760: These high-performance grades offer superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to traditional 300-series stainless steels and even other duplex alloys.
Benefits of Duplex Stainless Steel Plates and Sheets
High Strength: Duplex steels are stronger than many austenitic stainless steels.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress-corrosion cracking.
Cost-Effective: Grades like LDX 2101 offer high strength at a lower cost due to reduced nickel content.
Versatile Applications: Suitable for a variety of industries including chemical processing, oil and gas, marine environments, and power generation.
