Duplex steels, named for their dual-phase structure of austenite and ferrite in nearly equal proportions, offer exceptional mechanical properties, duplex steel composition and corrosion resistance. These steels excel in their as-cast and as-welded states, making them ideal for applications requiring strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking and various environmental conditions.
Duplex Steel Products are renowned for their immense hardness, making them the top choice for applications requiring exceptional strength. Duplex Stainless Steels are known as “duplex” because of their two-phase microstructure, which includes grains of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel. This unique structure offers a remarkable combination of benefits.
Duplex Steel is approximately twice as strong as regular austenitic or ferritic stainless steel. It is highly corrosion-resistant and has superior toughness and ductility compared to ferritic grades. These qualities make it ideal for use in challenging environments where durability and reliability are crucial.
As a leading duplex stainless steel manufacturer in India, we are committed to ensuring the highest standards for the physical and mechanical properties of our products. Our range includes Duplex Stainless Steel, Duplex Steel, Duplex Pipe, Fittings, and Flanges. Each product is meticulously crafted to meet stringent quality requirements, making them suitable for a variety of industrial applications.

Duplex Steel Supply Conditions
- Strength – Duplex stainless steels are about twice as strong as normal austenitic or ferritic stainless steels.
- Toughness and Ductility – These steels offer superior toughness and flexibility compared to ferritic grades, though they don’t match the properties of austenitic grades.
- Corrosion Resistance – Like all stainless steels, duplex stainless steels are highly resistant to corrosion. Their resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion depends on the chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content in the alloy. Duplex stainless steel grades offer a range of corrosion resistance similar to that of austenitic stainless steel grades.
- Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance – Duplex stainless steels excel in resisting stress corrosion cracking (SCC), a characteristic inherited from the ferritic side. SCC can pose a challenge for standard austenitic types like 304 and 316, especially in the presence of chlorides, humidity, or high temperatures.
- Cost – Duplex stainless steels contain lower amounts of nickel and molybdenum compared to equally corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steels, making them more cost-effective. The higher yield strength of duplex stainless steel often allows for thinner sections, leading to significant cost and weight savings compared to austenitic stainless steel solutions.

FAQ
What is duplex steel used for?
Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is composed of almost equal parts of austenite and ferrite. It is utilized in various industries, including automotive, marine, petrochemical, paper, and thermal power generation, due to its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good weldability.
What is the most common duplex steel?
The most common duplex steel grades are UNS S31803 and UNS S32205. These grades are well-known for their excellent resistance to localized corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. Additionally, they offer very high mechanical strength and good weldability, making them popular choices in various industrial applications.
Is duplex steel expensive?
Duplex stainless steels are generally more expensive due to their high alloy content. However, their cost is typically lower than highly alloyed grades like 904L, making them a cost-effective option for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance.
